Vanuatu to host Queen’s Baton 24 -28 December 2013

Exactly a week to go before the arrival of the Queen’s baton in Vanuatu. VASANOC Management Consultant Thibault Montagnon, quoted in Daily Post last week, “Because this falls on Christmas the activities will kick start on December 26 and 27 2013.” The Queen's baton will arrive next week on Tuesday to a welcome of custom dance and a display of Taekwondo at the international airport. 

Jasons Travel Media Purchased Out Of Receivership By Bennetts

Media Release 9 December 2013: Iconic travel media company Jasons Travel Media has been purchased by Jasons (2013) Limited, a member of the Bennetts Group, from receivers PPB Advisory, for an undisclosed sum.The family-owned Bennetts Group’s acquisition means that Jasons will continue to trade as a going concern, protecting the interests of tourism industry operators, customers and other stakeholders.  The deal includes 62 magazine publications, the Jasons websites, and more than 4,000 distribution points across New Zealand. 

Vanuatu poised for a surfing breakthrough

Posted on 9 Dec 2013: Vanuatu is on the verge of challenging the world's best surfing countries after an impressive win at the Melanesian Surf Cup on the weekend. Vanuatu dominated the different divisions at Cloudbreak in Fiji to win the Melanesian Cup ahead of New Caledonia and Fiji. The President of Fiji's Surfing Association, John Philp, says it shouldn't be long before Vanuatu is competing with the likes of Australia and Tahiti.

Malampa Tourism announces new members

Last week, Malampa.travel call centre and the provincial tourism office announced Malampa’s new products that have recently become members after joining the call centre and being added to Malampa.travel as well as VTO’s website. The VTO congratulates the Department of Tourism, Malampa Provincial tourism, and Malampa call centre for its new members, and especially extends an acknowledgement to TVET for funding the necessary training to upgrading tourism products standards and services including evaluation and accreditation of these products. Carnival: Vanuatu is very important to us

By Len Garae, Daily post Friday 13th December: “Vanuatu is very important to us and we are optimistic of the efforts that have been made so far”. Carnival Australia Destination Manager, Michael Mihajlov, made the remarks on his return from Santo yesterday, before boarding his flight back to Sydney. It was a trip which he spoke highly of saying he met with the stakeholders and was happy with the outcome of the meetings. 

SPTO Roadshow ends well

The photos shows Jeanette Baude from the VTO and also the winner if the grand door prize to Vanuatu.  Ambika works for Flight Centre in central London, she is second from the left lower row. A very generous prize was offered by Whitegrass Resort in Tanna, The Havannah and Holiday Inn with Air Vanuatu supplying airfares for two from Australia and onward to Tanna. Many thanks to all of our partners in tourism for making this door prize possible.

You are invited to apply by completing the attached Expression of Interest which will be reviewed by a 4 person curatorial panel to exhibit in Maketi Ples 2014.  If your application is successful, you will be required to fund your participation to attend the promotional event for a minimum of one week.

Ratua Foundation successfully completes 2013 projects - One Child One Bag

The VTO acknowledges and congratulates Ratua Private Island’s Foundation organization for releasing its 2013 report which shows that Ratua has had a great year filled with activities and projects, one of which grabbed the industry’s attention and touched Vanuatu Tourism’s heart - Ratua Foundation’s One Child One Bag project. Ratua Foundation’s One Child One Bag project is one of many of Ratua's village project which helps primary school children in remote communities throughout Vanuatu that are disadvantaged in schooling and health materials & facilities. The Foundation in its report thanked donors and benefactors  for their ongoing support towards Ratua's projects in the field of health and children's education.  Thank you Ratua Foundation for this wonderful initiative!  Click to view report.

VTO Board, Management and Staff welcome new Chairman Philip Malas

The Board, Management and staff of the Vanuatu Tourism Office bid farewell to the former chairman Mr Noel Faionalave last week and on Thursday 28th November, VTO Board formally welcomed its new Chairman during its end of year closing meeting. The VTO General Manager Mrs Linda Kalpoi, thanked the former chair for his commitment and service to the VTO in the past year, and warmly welcomed Mr Malas as the new leader in the role, appointed by the Honorable Prime Minister Moana Carcasses in October this year. The official handing over of Chairmanship from Mr Faionalave to Mr Malas was witnessed by VTO management and staff on Tuesday 26th November in the VTO conference room. The office is excited over this new appointment given Mr Malas’ wealth of knowledge, experience and largely Mr Malas’ passion for the tourism industry. The VTO  looks forward  to supporting and working very closely with Mr Malas in his term as VTO Chairman.

Vanuatu strives to improve tourism infrastructure

Posted online Travel Weekly on 4 December, 2013 by Anne Majumdar:  Vanuatu is heavily focusing on improving its tourism infrastructure in a bid to attract more airlines, international hotel chains and ultimately visitors from around the world to the island nation. Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO) general manager Linda Kalpoi told Travel Today that negotiations are underway with a number of countries keen to invest in a new international airport. Although some Australian interest has been registered, the most attractive offers have come from Korea, China and Singapore.

Source Miss South Pacific2013 facebook:  The contestants of this year's 'Carpenters' Miss South Pacific Pageant 2013' have drawn their order of appearance for the rest of the Pageant Week from the 01-07 December 2013, especially for the night of the Miss South Pacific Pageant 2013 Crowning on Saturday 07 December at the Pacific Casino Hotel.  The Contestants have now also chosen their Interview Topics for the Pre-Pageant Interview that will take place later on in the week.
