Musical Island Boys confirmed for WSB International Theatre Festival in June

For release by WSB: So a festival update.....drum roll please!!!!! Our First confirmed act is The Musical Island Boys, a Barber Shop Quartette from New Zealand. The come runner up in the last world championships and are very talented guys! Here is a link to their website! http://www.musicalislandboys.co.nz/#!/ They are coming a bit earlier than most of the other acts and will be running workshops and perfoming at Wan Smolbag on the evening of Friday 20th June.  It should be a very cool start to the event! Catch you soon!

Vanuatu Hockey enters Youth Olympic Qualifiers and promotes Vanuatu

To explain it in this island land one usually needs to compare it to the Mighty Ducks – without the ice. However after only 5 years the sport has grown and developed rapidly. So much so that it is now the first sport in Vanuatu to Host an Official Olympic Event.

A new Pacific Regional Tourism Strategy for the region

Press release, Friday 28th February, 2014. Port Vila, Vanuatu: Tourism in Pacific Island Countries is expected to receive a boost with the completion and soon to be launched regional tourism strategy. The South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is into the final lap of country consultations through workshops and stakeholder discussions at a regional level to seek valuable feedback on the first draft of a new overarching Pacific Regional Tourism Strategy (RTS) for the five-year period from 2015-2019. Today SPTO underwent a series of consultations with public and private sector stakeholders in Port Vila, Vanuatu at the VNPF Building, in their Conference Room on Friday 28th February, 2014 from 9am to 1pm. 

What's cruising around the corner - Vanuatu Yachting News 2014

The World ARC Rally: The World ARC is coming to Port Vila in July with over 40 participating yachts from all over the world. Vanuatu Tourism and its yachting sector are looking forward to welcoming all our visiting yachties. The Island Cruising Association: The Island Cruising Association (ICA) is currently planning the 2014 cruises to Vanuatu. Yachting World is sponsoring a special Opua to Vanuatu rally. The Waterfront Bar and Grill will be the ICA base in Port Vila. Please see ICA webpage for details

New check in times to improve on time performance

Air Vanuatu has announced new check-in time requirements in an effort to improve on time performance. Passengers now departing on international flights are required to check in well before one hour prior to departure. “Our check-in counters will close 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of all international flights,” CEO Joseph Laloyer said.

Sneak peaks of John Frum

On Saturday 15th February, Sebastien Bador VTO Events and Trade Manager, witnessed the commemoration of the John Frum cult which took place at Lamakara Village, where John Frum cult members celebrate annually on 15th February. The day kicked off with flag raising and opening drill led by 80 "soldiers" in the early hours of the morning followed by speeches including of the Founding father of the movement, Chief Issaac Wan and his "elders".

On Thursday 20th February 2014, to commemorate Lini Day on 21st February, VTO Information Officer Michaela Aurthur, and the Events and Trade Manager Mr Sebastien Bador were invited to partake and witness the launching of the Freedom Tour or National Liberation History guided tour, by Ms Motarilavoa Hilda Lini and from Gahena’s Travel & Tours. At 03.00pm the duo boarded the tour bus and stopped in front of several historical sites very much linked with fight towards Vanuatu's Independence when Vanuatu was colonized by the British and French.

Vanuatu tops Region for Cruise Ship visits

By Len Garae, Daily Post: Vanuatu currently tops the Pacific island countries as the most popular destination for cruise ships as shown by a list of over 200 cruise ships to visit the country this year. The Vanuatu Cruise Survey 2014 findings show that 93% of all visitors that visited the country from July to December came from Australia.

Vanessa Quai, from the sunny South Sea Islands of Vanuatu, is known to her legions of fans as the Pacific Music Queen thanks to a string of hit records and sell- out concerts.  So it is perhaps a little surprising that she has decided to launch her latest record in the North West of England in the height of winter.

The Vanuatu Tourism Office and David Kirkland finished Vanuatu's 10 day photo shoot assignment last week, accomplishing phase 2 of a project to build an On-Line Photo Library for the Vanuatu Tourism Office. Phase 3 will happen in August/September when VTO and Kirkland will be bringing in professional talents or models to concentrate on Efate including a visit to Malekula.
