Air Vanuatu commits to outer island routes

Media release: Air Vanuatu’s Chief Executive Officer Joseph Laloyer has announced a small increase in the cost of domestic airfares, effective 01 June 2014. “Whilst any increase in fares is regrettable, it is necessary in order to sustain our non-profitable routes to the outer islands.
“Air Vanuatu is committed to serving all of Vanuatu, not just the main sectors of Port Vila, Santo and Tanna. These routes subsidise all other domestic flights which we are obligated to provide scheduled services to.”

Mr. Laloyer said the five percent increase would apply to all domestic airfares and would help contribute to increasing fuel costs, engineering & maintenance and also ensure scheduled services continued to smaller outer island ports.

“We have held off increasing domestic fares for as long as possible – in fact we have not had a fare increase since 2008,” he said.

The fare increase will apply to any tickets booked or issued from 01 June, for travel on or after that date. Tickets booked before 01 June, will still be at the current rates.
