“This year we had record number of competitors in the Island Kaekae class and for only the second time in the history of the competition a dish was produced that result in the maximum 100 points with an island kaekae dish from Alick Abel of Iririki Island Resort & Spa. We also had a record number of competitors in the Senior and Junior Chef of the Year classes, The Service Professional of the Year and the Barista Championship.” He said.
“It has been a big year for us as we also launched the Vanuatu Young Chefs Club with the assistance of Minister Ralph Regenvanu and Australia’s Young Chefs Club President Adam Khazaal on International Chefs Day, and we included the new Chocolate competition with ACTIV. The feedback from the visiting international and local judges is that the Vanuatu Salon Culinaire is the best in the Pacific and we hope that we can continue to grow the event with the support of our fantastic sponsors, supporters and the industry” he concluded
The Origin Culinary Arts & Hospitality Show is an annual five day event with cooking and front of house competitions across the industry. The International judges provide unbiased scoring and then feedback to all competitors across the culinary classes, and the front of house competitions. The winners of the classes each received a certificate, a trophy and a TVL prize pack. From the competition the National Culinary Team is selected, this is a team of 6 chefs to be mentored and guided by Air Vanuatu Executive Chef David Holliday.
