Miss Culture 2014 contest coming up!

Media release, Thursday 09th October 2014:  The Vanuatu Cultural Center is proud to announce to its supporters and the general public it is now looking for its cultural ambassador! This quest will end with a Miss Culture 2014 contest.  The aim of this national event is not only to celebrate the world Culture Day and the Vanuatu Cultural Centre face, but also to encourage local designers to use traditional material and create contemporary and innovative garments. As such, the event will have three items: a presentation of traditional costumes to reflect the past, a catwalk with contestants wearing contemporary clothes, and finally a showcase of original gowns using local and traditional materials.
“You are all warmly welcome to attend the Miss Culture 2014 event’ says Mr. Ambong Thompson, Acting Director of the Vanuatu Cultural Center and Chairman of the steering committee. ‘It is not about comparing nor judging our rich Vanuatu cultures, which are all unique, but about promoting it and safeguarding it for the upcoming generations through an exciting event which will involve young people and skilled craftsmen and women.’
The contestant registration forms will be made available from next week at the National Museum. The registration deadline is Friday 17th October 2014.
The event will take place from 06.00pm on Monday 17th November 2014 at the National Museum. Entry fee, which include drinks and nibbles, will be at VUV 2,500 per person.
To ensure this event is a success, the Vanuatu Cultural Center has teamed up with the Miss Vanuatu Committee, the Tourism Ambassador Programme and the Vanuatu Tourism Office.
