By Sara King: Workshops were held in Luganville and Tanna this week to provide hotel, bungalow and tour operators with information on how to enter the Vanuatu Tourism Awards for Excellence. With entries now open and closing on December 1, operators from across Vanuatu are encouraged to apply the national program. In Tanna, fifteen island bungalow and tour operators attended the workshop organized in partnership with the Department of Tourism, where they were guided through the process and given entry booklets to fill out.
“This workshop gave the local operators an opportunity to understand the awards process and receive the printed entry forms,” said Daniel Ringiau, Department of Tourism Officer for Tanna. “We want to see that Tanna is represented in the Awards and are on hand to help them through the process.” Similarly in Luganville, a consultation was held with hotel and tour operators to inform them of the new awards design and process. The consultation was held in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Espiritu Santo Tourism Association. “This year’s awards are different because for the first time, we are inviting international judges from our core markets to be involved, as well as providing participants with feedback from their submissions,” said Tourism Awards Committee chairlady and VTO general manager, Linda Kalpoi. “We believe this will provide real value for the participants.”
The accommodation categories include island bungalow, mid-range accommodation, boutique accommodation, hotel/resort accommodation, and luxury accommodation. The tour categories include cultural/eco tour, adventure activity, ocean experience, and scenic tour. Individual awards include front of house, back of house and tour guide.
A workshop will be held in Malekula in the coming weeks. In Port Vila, accommodation and tour operators can attend on November 19, 2014 in Port Vila to learn more about the process. Interested operators please email email@example.com to register your participation in the workshop. An entry guide and forms are available on the VTO's website, click here.
